“For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will– to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves.” -Ephesians 1:4-6
I decided to change it up a little today and put a verse first. You see, I like this verse. It makes me feel special. How great it is to know that even before the earth was created, God chose us to be His set-apart and perfect children! And not only that, it was in love, for his pleasure! If I were you, I’d meditate on this verse for a little while. Think about what it means to you. If you have accepted Christ as your Lord, this verse is talking about you. You are holy and blameless in His sight. You have been adopted into His family. You are a living testimony to His glorious grace, a grace that comes only in Jesus.
What is grace? How can you get it? What exactly can it do in your life? Well, hopefully I can answer these questions.
First of all, grace is a gift from God through Jesus Christ. Check out Titus 2:11-12. According to that verse, grace brings salvation. It is His grace that “teaches us to say ‘No’ to ungodliness.” Basically, it’s grace that enables us to obey God. And that’s really cool if you think about it, because it’s God who gives us grace in the first place. Because of His love for us, He won’t let us fend for ourselves. He is the One who actually gives us the power to obey Him.
So how do we get this amazing grace? The answer is simple: ask God for it. Matthew 7:7 says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” Come to God with a humble heart. Repent for your sin and your rebellion, and receive His grace by faith. God has promised to forgive you and not only that, but to also give you the power to overcome that sin.
Grace changes you for the better. I know that I need more grace every day. There’s always something that God is bringing to the surface in my heart, something He wants to deal with. We are His children, brothers and sisters. He wants the best for us. When we submit to His grace, He is faithful to make us more like Him. God chose us from before time for a purpose. If you’ve been looking for some significance in life, this is it: to be a witness for His grace. God’s grace alone gives us the power to overcome evil and live victoriously in love. When people see you living a holy and blameless life, that is a testimony. It shows the greatness of God when a human being is free from sin, because there is no way we can do it on our own. I’ll leave you with some nice lyrics:
How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost
But now I’m found
Was blind but now I see
