When my earthly ears fail me, I fix my heavenly ears on the voice of God. I listen to the Word of God, Jesus Christ.
My earthly body is dying. Slowly, I will age, and the flesh in which I once held such confidence will show its true nature and fade away. It’s just that way with the things of this world; societies, bank accounts, businesses and cities will all die at some time or another. Everything I can see, hear or touch will not last forever. Imperfect languages, my partial knowledge will pass away.
All glory to the unheard One whose words last forever! Only the God of the universe gives the eternal things: a glorious new body, an everlasting Kingdom and a perfect city, the heavenly Jerusalem. His love is the forever love, and in my weakness I know(imperfectly and partially, of course) that His power is strongest!
We cannot think of Jesus in earthly terms. What use is that? If He was merely a man whose example we follow, then His influence ends when our weak bodies do. Yes, we will do good works and be rewarded for them, but the eternal truth is that when we end, He has just begun. That should give us all the confidence in the world.
“So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, ‘Come back to God!'”–2 Corinthians 5:20
